How/where do rear view mirrors mount?

Thinking of getting a rear view mirror for safety but have never paid that much attention to them. I also want to install an overhead radio console and am wondering if that will block the mirror or if the mirror can be mounted such that it's visible even with the overhead console. Have searched for pix and threads and haven't really found anything.

rear views come in all shapes and varieties. I had a car rear view on my far front canopy until i hung my radio console. It blocks it now so I took it down. It wont block a rear view mirror bar though. I am either gonna hang one like that with the 5 mirrors or get a side view mirror and mount it on my drivers side canopy support. I think I'll do the later. Show us what you come up with.

I'm talking about the bar type that goes across the entire front of the top. I've seen them but not sure if they mount to the top or mount to the uprights on either side of the top supports so that it could be adjusted up or down so that the overhead console wouldn't be in the way.

I've got a head unit and 6.5" marine speakers picked out. I just have to get it all here so I can mount it up.

I use a marine skier type mirror ( 14" wide prisom to give full view behind and to the sides more than golf cart mirrors ) on my cart that mounts on top cross frame in center but hangs down possibly?? enough to clear radio console that you want to use?
The bar type multi sectioned mirror you are talking about mount to outside top supports and can be mounted lower to allow for console.
