1981 2stroke ez go loss power and got really loud
Hi I'm new to the forum and the golf cart world and I was hoping some one could help me. I was trick or treating with my kids when my 1981 ezgo went into a limp mode and was driving on a reduced power and got super loud. I checked the spark plug and changed the fuel filter and it seems to be running a little stronger but not much and its still really loud. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you may have broken loose something in the muffler - I don't recall if the really early marathons had baffles or perf tubes, but either way if something broke loose You'd get loud and depending on where the loose piece/pieces ended up it could be severely hampering the flow ... Do this, loosen the muffler from the pipe so You have a 1/2" gap or so, then run it around and see if that helps (of course it'll be REALLY loud when You do this) - if that fixes things then You're looking at a muffler repair or replacement. That's just my first instinctive guess so it may or may not be the issue, but it's an easy check to see if that really IS the issue

I checked the exhaust and everything was fine. I am beginning to wonder if maybe it coild be the head gasket
