Default 1991 3pg rpm question

On a 1991 Marathon with the 3pg engine is there some type of rev limiter built in the ignition system? I cant get the same rpm's out of it as I can with my cart with the 2pg engine in it. I have manually bypassed the governor to test the top rpm and does not seem to have what my 2pg does. dave

No rev limiter but does have a governor that can be adjusted.

it's weird, but my old 87 and especially my 1988 2pg's were far better motors than my 90 (although the 1988 was the "High Performance" year with bigger carb, exhaust, etc so that's no reach) ... I've only been on one 3pg that really ran out well, that was a buddies cart with a Mikuni carb, custom exhaust, HEI, etc though - sounded like a rabid chainsaw on steroids (which I really couldn't stand" but it *did* boogie ...

A blocked muffler will limit your RPM's as will dirty jets, did You pull the carb entirely apart and give it a thorough cleaning, BBQ your muffler, etc?
