Default 2003 TXT Front Clutch/hard take off

Is it normal to have a take off that will sit you back in your seat?

I've finally completed all the little tune up things.. throttle cable and valve adjustment and my only remaining issue is the take off.

I have the back end open and back seat off and can lean over and look at the front clutch while driving.

From a dead still start the front clutch will remain fully open until it revs high enough and then it will close the last 1/4" or what ever the small gap is and grab the belt and give me a good jolt at take off.

I tried a new belt, but that didn't help.

I've read a lot of stuff on here about clutches and I guess the only way to find out for sure is start with taking the driven clutch off and inspecting it.

Any ideas about how to get this out?

Maybe it's normal, but I don't recall it on the carts at the golf club.

Thanks

Its fairly simple to pull the clutch. Your new belt will be grabby at first until it breaks in. Did you replace the belt with a stock one or is it possible that a previous owner put a shorter belt on and you replaced it with the same length. A shorter belt will also grab and give you a lot of torque.

Pulling the clutch is easy. You can either order the proper clutch puller which imho is the best if you are gonna be working on the cart more than a couple of times or you can get a 2 inch fine thread 3/4 bolt and about a 5 inch 5/8rod. If you use the regular puller, you will want to put some grease into the hole that the clutch bolt was in then slide the puller bolt in there. Use an impact wrench and hit it a couple of times and it will pop right off. You can then pull the dust cover off and clean/inspect it. Lubricate it with graphite lubricant. Reassemble per the service manual.

Thanks SC. I put a new stock belt on and then put the old one back on.. Same results.
I found the puller on eBay for $26 and LOTS more other places.
