How to get oil out of a g16 muffler
I have a 97 Yamaha g16 that was smoking pretty bad. I rebuilt the motor input a bigger piston new rings and had iy bored .25. Everything is back together now and it runs awesome butt still smokes like crazy. I took the exhaust muffler off and started it and it does not smoke at all. I'm guessing there is oil inside the muffler? How can I get it out? Thanks

Re: How to get oil out of a g16 muffler
It will take all the paint off it but you can use high temp paint like for a gas grill or headers, etc. Usually the flames will come out when it stops its done, not long in a hot fire.
Or you can just run the heck out of it and it will burn out in maybe 15-20 min of constant running with lots of throttle. Make sure you run it slower to cool it off after it burns out and stops smoking. muffler will get real hot. It may smell for a while but it will go away. Common thing for G1 carts with a much larger muffler. |

Re: How to get oil out of a g16 muffler
im having another issue. It seems that if I push the pedal all the way down the cart will just bog down. If I lightly feather it then It will take off but if I ever mash it to the floor it just bogs. If I choke it and push it to the floor it will run like its suppose to. Im thinking its running lean meaning a air leak but I put new gaskets on each side of the carb and the spacer. the air box is sealed. I even put a brand new carb on it. same issue.

Re: How to get oil out of a g16 muffler
not enuff gas is getting in it now aka lean
could be extra air is leaking in or gas flow is blocked by dirt in carb float-bowl or jets or a little bit of water in the float bowl or the gas pump is going weak and can't flow enuff gas usually dirt, water, or varnish in the carb somewhere but with your new carb and bits I suspect the gas pump |

Re: How to get oil out of a g16 muffler
Take the hose off the carb, it should spurt fuel out on the starter.
It is easy to hog the jet out a little, I did mine when I took the silencer off the airbox. You can buy a jet drill set for $10 or get a torch tip cleaner and file it out. Do it enough so it pulls good, make sure its warm when you do this, make sure it has no air leaks/etc first of course but some carts are just lean enough you need to bump the jet up some. |

Also check your gas cap. Its rare but a bad cap can cause this also. What type of fuel filter are you using? Yamahas are picky about air fuel mixture. Make sure the fuel lines are the correct size/diameter as factory if you replaced them.
Check the fuel pump too. May be full of grit. You can remove it, disassemble, and clean. Just be careful with the little rubber gasket when you split it apart (separate slow). |

On the bogging I'd think that you might be needing to enlarge the main jet in the carb because of the increase in displacement. A partially clogged muffler can cause this problem too. |
