Default Air Shroud Fan on my G2

Nice day after work so I decided to clean up my motor some. I pulled off the air shroud and the fan case cover (part#4 on the break down for OEM parts) inside there is a piece of foam that is glued on, what is the main purpose for the foam? Mine was all full of mud/crud and was half off so I tore the rest out. I can take it to my Amish buddy and have another piece glued in, but I was just wondering what the purpose is.

99% sure it's was for sound deadening, like all the other foam. I always take it all out, no golf course riding for me!

I won't be doing any golf course riding either I didn't know if they we're trying to slow the air down/hold it inside the outer cover..with it being just smooth plastic if that it would just enter the cover and just slip right back out.. but I guess we're not doing 200 mph so I guess that throws that theory out then thought maybe the foam would help catch any water from getting up into the fan.. but when you think about what they we're designed for putting around on a golf course, your probably 99% right with sound deadening.

I don't recall ever seeing foam in that shroud piece.

John, you mean there is foam stuff inside the engine shrouding?

I'm gonna guess that there shouldn't be!!

My fan shroud is 2 pieces..the outer half is for air intake, it's held on with 4 bolts. There was a thin maybe 1/4" thick foam glued around the inner edge of it. I will get a picture tonight when I get home from work. It was definitely factory-installed or appears to have been.

I think it is factory I had 2 g-2 that were getting warm. I pulled all the shrouds off the engine to get the mud leaves etc out and their was foam on one of my carts in the fan shroud. I just ripped it out of their.

This (black piece) on mine had a piece of rubber closing off the area on the side, but I removed it (push in rivets) (cause running it in 120* weather) motor needs all the air it can get!!

No idea of the G2, but on all others, all silencer pads are indicated in the part catalog. Having a view at it should answer the question if it is original or added.
