Re: G16 engine replacement
***... that one is gone....
What did you pay for the donor engine? Man it seems when there’s engine problems to me, it’s better to big block it, unless you get a deal on a running engine. I was about to buy a few stock engines on a few carts we had, but then I thought, just BB it and be happy. I still think a stock engine is fine but I live a life of fast cars and bikes so you know the rest. |

Re: G16 engine replacement
I only picked up this cart about 2 months ago. Don't know the history of it beyond 1 year. Got it to fix it up knowing the motor was toast. Got to keep it a stock motor so it can stay in my park. It's a rule they have. No non stock motors

Re: G16 engine replacement
Well I had a few minutes today to get back at my motor. The parts I ordered have not come in but I figured I would get ready for them. I have the engine just about completely torn down. Only thing left to do is get that pesky flywheel off. I currently do not have a puller but I am hoping to find one some where that will do the trick.

Re: G16 engine replacement
Well I got a gear puller to remove the fly wheel today. Turns out it is not the best tool to do the job. As you can see one wheel came to pieces. The other came off with little effort. check out the key, the flywheel obviously spun a bit when the engine blew up. Also all the parts I ordered came today as well. Nothing to do but clean up and reassemble.

I need a stock engine for my camp ground..... that is why I have gone this route. I'd love to BB it and put in a lift kit. That would be nice. |

Re: G16 engine replacement
Well the motor is back in the cart and running smooth and quiet. I'll get some pics of the installed motor tomorrow. Got a sound in the rear end that I'll have a look at then as well.

Re: G16 engine replacement
With the clone you just put the nut on 90% threads and hit it with a 3lb it pops the flywheel right off. I hold a piece of steel on the nut so it does not get dented. Its because these single engines have plenty of end play. This is for a keyed taper fit flywheel. Some have bolts near crank you can use a typical steering wheel puller they are cheap to buy.
I don't know, I would put a clone or better in a cart that needed an engine because I like the power. It is much easier to work with stock engine you don't modify anything else in the cart so it is easy bolt out/in. But you do get a new engine when you swap and more power, for all your trouble of doing the swap. If you put a good muffler on a single engine there is no way they could know it is not stock. Anyway nice post on some guts work, glad it is running good now and you can enjoy it. |
