87, 2 stroke backfires
My cart backfires when you let off of the gas and coast down a hill for a while and get back on it, I do know that tha carb needs to now be rebuilt, I Came home to 2 gallons of gas on my floor that came out of the over flow tube, so some thing is stuck open in the carb, I hope that this is the cause of the backfire, are there any other reason I should be looking for, I am new to this, hello everyone and thanks for any help

You may need to check the whole fuel delivery system also, from the vent on the tank cap to the fuel pump. I don't think i've seen one siphon its gas out although I guess it's possible with any gas in the tank that's above the carb.

i agree w ruredy, check it all and then refer to the tech manuals in the sticky section to clean your carb. its really easy to do. dont let it intimidate you.

Re: 87, 2 stroke backfires
Thanks for the info, I think I will rebuild the fuel pump while I am in there, there must be something wrong with it as well, I did not think that it would let fuel by unless it has a hole in it or something, the fuel would run out of the over flow for awhile and then stop, and then start back up every 30 seconds, I am hoping this is the cause of my backfiring, it ran great until this happened and now you can tell it is loading up when running

sccowboy, can you point me to the sticky section you refer to re: cleaning carberator? I've looked through the gas tech section but don't see it (even with bifocals on) thanks!

Re: 87, 2 stroke backfires
the manuals in the tech thread dont go back as far as your cart, I used them for basic reference when I reworked my 89. some of the info is the same though. you should be able to find an exploded view of a carb for a newer model. they are basically the same. seeing how simple the carb is will help you a lot.
