And for a water source, I'm thinking about using an old RV water tank, old wakeboard boat ballast tanks, or even a Fatsack for a wakeboard boat. Figure I can get probably at least 50 gallons on the back of the cart safely (about 400 lbs)...... if the ice is thick enough. |

Re: Winter carting
Hey AJ, what about a 30 gal propane water heater ? Could run the feed from the drain and heat it on the spot. Also the 30 would probably be low enough to be stable..

Re: Winter carting
Not bad, kgsc. So are you thinking of running AC on the cart & actually heating the water as you drive?
Actually I found a used RV water tank on CL on Sunday. Cost me $15 for a 22 gallon tank. It's 33" x 17" x 9", fits on the flip seat inside the cage & it's square so it won't roll around at all. It has 4 holes in it, 3 of which are threaded, about 1/2" in diameter, one is about 1" in diameter. Thinkin that I'll install a PVC valve on the bigger hole, plus I'll need a vent, and a fill hose. Still haven't worked out what the thing I'll drag will be like. Probably PVC with some kind of rug/carpet behind it. Spent some time skating on the lake on Sunday. It's only about 3" thick so still a ways before the cart will be needed.... or allowed.... on the ice. |

Re: Winter carting
Air Junky -- I bought one of those propane turkey cookers at a yard sale for $10 -- maybe something like that would be useful? It has a threaded valve for a drain and holds about 7.5 gallons of water (but you could mix it with cold from another container for a warm mix). Maybe put the entire thing on a sled to pull behind the cart with the drag behind that.

Re: Winter carting
Oh yea, that'll be loads better. ;)
Gotta light? Actually I have hot water in my garage, a block from the lake. So I'd probably just back the cart inside & fill it up. The bummer is I'd have to refill it after I spread 22 gallons. |

Re: Winter carting
22 gal will go a long way as a slick with a hunk of rug.
You don't want a lot of water because it will form its own layer and flake off. learned this drag racing on ice. |
