Question Throttle Rod Adjustment

I have a 1997 EZGO cart, it backfires at slow speeds. I've adjusted the pilot screw. Could the throttle linkage need to be adjusted? And if so what would be the correct position. I'm sure the length of the rod would be important. Thanks, Walt

Mine would only backfire every once in a while but, would surge (on and off) terribly. The spring was missing at the throttle-stop. Installed spring today and it's a different cart!!!
