1986 Marathon drive clutch change
I've decided to change the drive clutch on my '86 marathon. New clutch is on the way and I'd like to get the old one off now. Can anyone walk me through the procedure. Pictures would be great. This is my first cart and have never done this before. Thanks

Re: 1986 Marathon drive clutch change
1. Remove the 7/16 inch bolt that holds the clutch on
2. The end of the clutch hub will be threaded (there may be a washer that needs to be pried off to expose the threads)- you will need to find a hardened bolt (Grade 8 or better) that perfectly matches these threads- some clutches have a 3/4 inch fine thread, mine was a 14 mm fine thread. 3. Cut a 1/2 grade 5 bolt about 3.75 inches long (don't use a grade 2-3 bolt- it may become deformed and stick in the end of the crankshaft- btdt)- the threads don't matter 4. Insert the 1/2 bolt into the hole (with the unthreaded end toward the crankshaft) into the hole in the clutch hub. Note: use a 5/8" bolt if you have a 3/4" threaded hole in the end of the hub (step 2) and if the 5/8" bolt will fit through the clutch hub hole (a 5/8 wouldn't fit into mine since the trheaded hole was only 14 mm). 5. Thread the bolt with a head into the end of the clutch hub- do not cross thread it- tighten it until the clutch pops off (you may need to use an air impact wrench because the engine will try to spin as you tighten the bolt) |

Re: 1986 Marathon drive clutch change
Thanks alot. Im going ahead with this because Im assuming it is going to help the lack of power up hills, the vibration and all the rattling noise. The driven clutch seems to be working as intended but it may need parts after I get new drive clutch on.
