Re: 1990 Ezgo secondary clutch or rear axle issue
Well, after ax extra day due to a wife tire issue, we took the diff cover off and there was no extra parts in it. Took the rear wheels off and the drivers hub and voila!!!! stripped spline in the hub on one side. Now I am off to locate a hub, diff seal, and lube to put it all back together.

Great news!
The diff cover is simply sealed with silicone gasket maker. |

Re: 1990 Ezgo secondary clutch or rear axle issue
It is crazy I had just read this thread the other day and started to hear a chunk in the rear when the boys would go from forward to reverse and back to forward like a U joint in a truck was starting to go.
Now the rear drivers side axle nut is spinning and the cart will not go. How do we fix this bad boy for the kids? Cheers Don. |

Re: 1990 Ezgo secondary clutch or rear axle issue
DonoBBD- to replace the hub, you will need to loosen the axle nut and remove the hub and brake drum. You may need to loosen the brake shoe adjuster if the brake drum won't slide off. Hopefully the hub splines are the only ones that are stripped and the axle splines are OK.

What do you do to fix it once off? Just weld her up?

Re: 1990 Ezgo secondary clutch or rear axle issue
If the hub splines are stripped and the axle splines are OK, buying a new hub and installing it would be the best way to repair it.
If the hub AND axle splines are stripped out, then if it was mine, I probably would try welding them together. |

Re: 1990 Ezgo secondary clutch or rear axle issue
I don't think an allen style set screw could take all of that force for long. Set screws typically just prevent a hub from sliding sideways on a shaft. I suppose you could try it as long as you don't damage the axle in any way.
