Default 86 Smoking like crazy but has 124lbs compression ?!?!?!

The title sums it up pretty well, the cart has had the oiler removed, tank cleaned out and now is running the same 128:1 as my 1988, the compression reads 124 BUT I never noticed til yesterday that WOW does this thing smoke ... Like a 15ft trail. Doesn't seem so dense, it dissipates rather quickly, not a huge heavy oil smell but it's there. Time for a re-ring or ??? - any opinions?

What kind of oil are you using? Mine smoked with somthing off the self at Walmart no smoke with Amsoil.I don't think rings will make a 2 stroke smoke. No oil in crank case to burn.

As bad as this thing is smoking You should almost be able to see it over by YOUR place, hahahaha ... And come to think of it, yeah, I *did* use up a small jug of the Walmart oil that was laying around when I mixed this last 5gal of premix - what's weird though is the other cart got the same fuel and isn't smokiing a bit.

I'm trying to go back over everything to see what I might be missing, I did a BBQ on the muffler last week so maybe there's still some unburned goo in there that I loosened up or ? (but I doubt it as I cooked that sucker for almost an hour) ...The cart just doesn't seem to have the takeoff power it should either though - the only thing that I haven't really messed with too much is the electrical on this one, the spark is nowhere near as nice as on my 88 with the HEI, I'm wondering if maybe I'm just not burning efficiently?

Just a thought: is the choke open all the way? That happened to me and was acting like yours.

Hey thanks for ringing the bell for me!! :)

As for the smoking... Brand of oil will make a HUGE diferece!! Back in my years of riding a 2 stroke street bike [RD400] cheap oil would cause the thing to smoke like CRAZY!! Good oil normaly cleaned it up well. Also could be a mixture thing. How does the plug look?? Is it all oil soaked and fouled?? As for the muffler... doesnt sound like it would do it, but if it was real bad, you might have had a lot of deposits in the headpipe burning off... But that would only be for a few min I would think. Rings normaly dont cause it... its burning the same oil wether its blowing by the rings, or going through the transfer ports. Just might be a bit more of it..

Aaaah, the old 2-stroke Yamaha's ... Always wanted one but had to settle for a Kawi H1 Triple (which I really, REALLY wish I still had around) ...

The headpipe also had it's place in the BBQ so I've ruled that out, the plug is brown a bit but dry and not at all fouled (although it's about an hour old, all told so that could change). I've been around these carts enough that I should be able to get my head around this one but for some reason I'm at a loss, like I said the same gasoil went into my 88 at the same time and nary a puff so I'm still leaning towards something silly that I'm missing
