Radiator Fan in Engine Compartment

Has anyone put a radiator fan (or any fan) in the engine compartment to help move air around the engine?

Our ST350 gets a lot of use rolling in parades at a crawl. This last parade (July 4th), I noticed that it put out a lot of heat. A lot more than normal. Granted, it was a hot day. So, I got to thinking that putting a fan in the compartment to either help pull the hot air out or to pull cooler air in would help it out.

For things like parades,you can remove the access cover behind the seat.The problem with fans is getting proper flow,if it pushes the air,it needs a good vent to release it or it will just air-lock and get hotter.Hope this helps.

There's not much of a access cover behind the seat.

Most of the time, I tip the dump bed back a touch.

I was gonna create an individual thread but you asked.....

I also had the heat in the compartment issue. I live out here in the Southwest and do a lot of desert and dune riding. A lot of times, the temps are 100+.
We all know the greatest enemy to any engine (especially an air-cooled one) is HEAT.

I have an EZGO TXT with a big block V-twin. My engine area is pretty full.
Also, adding to the heat, are a set of stainless headers. So here's what I did:

I measured the space I had available in the front panel and found the largest fans I could. One is a 7 1/2" and the other is a 4 1/2". They are Spal automotive fans made for cooling radiators etc. These fans are puller type. They bring air from outside into the engine area. Now I placed the large one so it mostly blows across the header and other blows across the top of the motor (onto the air cleaner).

The air continues out the compartment through the rear. I drilled holes in the front diamond plate to allow air in. I used 2 marine grade switches and wired them with fuses as well.

Also to help, I wrapped the header to help keep the heat down and i used a fireproof insulating blanket under the seat to protect it.

Now I don't have any temp gauges to verify its effectiveness, but just feeling under the seat I can feel a difference. Gonna have to do some tests maybe with a infrared thermometer with the fans on and then with off.

From what I can tell, it appears that the engine compartment in the ST350 is a little longer than the TXT, but your post has gotten me thinking though.

I like the way you did that where did you get the fan and do you have a part #
would like to see if it would mount behind the battery on the side of my 89

They have all different sizes, pushers and pullers. They are not the cheapest, but they are high quality automotive fans made to last.

Thanks for the info that might help keep my cart cooler I rerouted the fuel lines that helped but it still gets hot and boughs out with two people in the cart after 30 to 40 min of hard riding like your cart

I think will put one the same size you put in the front on the side so it will blow over the motor and wrap the muffler. I have a 3inch muffin fan that I am going to put in the back behind the carb to pull air in from the back of the cart.
