Workhorse having problems
Hi Guys,
I picked up a ST 480 Workhorse with a Briggs Vanguard V twin with it a no start condition. Checked plugs firing OK. Fuel pump good. Fuel to carb good. Carb was all crudded up tho. Cleaned it up as best I could by removing the top and all. It actually looks pretty good now, cleaned and blew out all jets and orifice's, etc. It will now run but will not go to low rpm or idle unless you pull the choke about 2/3 closed. High rpm seems ok. Compression check on cylinders about 60-65 pounds. What should compression be? Valves set at .006. Is it still the maybe the carb. Any ideas which way to go here? Has anyone had experience with one of these engines or this type of condition? Any help will be greatly appreciated BuddyGo |

Re: Workhorse having problems
An update to the Workhorse problem. Finally got it running by cleaning carb. However, it will only run with the choke pull all the way. Runs pretty good, idles and all. The only intake air it can get is through the small hole in the choke butterfly. Makes me think vacuum leak or maybe carb still has problems.
Has anyone had similar problems as this. Sure would like to hear from some of the experienced guys like Scotty. Thanks Guys, Buddygo |
