87 244CC Oil Mix System Elimination?
I am in the process of a motor rebuild and I have found that the end of the crank is damaged where the oil pump drive goes. It has been flattened out from most likely hammering to remove the flywheel sometime in the past. Can I just eliminate this and mix the gas / oil just like my chainsaw or weedeater?

Re: 87 244CC Oil Mix System Elimination?
Yes you can in fact most people recommend that you do just that. The easiest way to do so is to trace the oil injection line to the elbow behind the carburetor and cut it about an inch away. Now with a screw of the right size and some mastic seal the pipe to prevent air leaks. Now you can remove the pump, cable and oil reservoir and you are done.
Mix your fuel at 128:1 (one gallon of fuel to one ounce of oil). You should always mix the gas and oil in a separate container and shake vigorously. Simply pouring oil into the gas tank will not work as the oil will merely sit on the bottom of the tank. Dave |

Thanks Dave, that was the response I was hoping for.
