Hook up the ground cable from the motor to the frame.

Ess, he says he has fuel but is that in the carb not at the carb by pulling the fuel line. after trying that much it should have a wet plug. If not take a bottle cap and pour some gas in the plug hole and put the plug in and try

I just did a compression check on mine and it's 165psi. Anywhere around that amount is pretty good. I have never had one of these motors apart but have had a lot of other's and am wondering if it's a keyed shaft where the flywheel bolts on? If so, iv'e seen people forget to put the keys back in and also shear them off. I'm sure someone will be along who will know for sure and you may have to disregard my last statement. Is the motor making a popping noise when turning over? So the spark plug is getting wet when turning over? Did you try giving her a spray of the old go juice(starter fluid)?

the plug is wet...getting fuel to the plug. Amount of compression I should have? I pulled the plug and i have pressure and it also draws quite a vacuum on the down stroke.

I have seen SBC V-8s run on as little as 100 pounds of compression. Try what ESS said and hold your thumb over the spark plug hole and crank the engine over. If your thumb will not hold the pressure at the end of compression stroke, then you should have enough to start the engine. If you thumb DOES hold the pressure (without any blowing past the thumb) put about 1/2 tea spoon of motor oil in the cylinder and crank the engine over for about 30 seconds to spread the oil around on the rings. Then try the thumb trick again. If you get blow by on the thumb, put the plug back in and try to start the engine again. If this don't work, then we need to talk on the phone while you are working on it.

Make sure to dry the spark plug before reinserting it into its hole.
