Re: Yamaha G8 Club - Please post!
Attaching 2 pics of the G8, first old airbrushing on a 'roller' paint job.
2nd, when it started looking like a brown swede shoe, I went with color change wrap. Currently fighting a random sudden no start, after running like a champ. cools off and restarts . |

Re: Yamaha G8 Club - Please post!
That problem is usually a failed igniter and they are expensive!! My advice is make very sure the replacement part is genuine Yamaha, or you’ll be buying it again!! Good luck!!👍

Re: Yamaha G8 Club - Please post!
Mike Mac - New Ignitor, new Voltage regulator, New Solenoid, New start stop switch, rebuilt starter / generator, new "timing" sensor. New wiring for the accessory circuits that melted out with a ground wire melt down. New additional ground wires to engine block. totally stripped down and re-wrapped "system" wiring harness also- found a few melts there too. New frickin' everything, except the ignition coil. Ran, started stopped for 45 minutes. then pull up to a ball, and NO START. accessories have power. Looking for suitable ignition coil options that would work on a G8a, assuming the G8A module isn't out there...

Re: Yamaha G8 Club - Please post!
Twist, sounds like you know what your doing!! The G8 ignition is un to itself, igniter as well as ignition coil have to be “Yamaha G8” part numbers, G9 parts won’t work!!
You might also test for a current draw (short) by doing this test. Put car in semi dark atmosphere, remove negative battery cable from battery, turn on key switch, then lightly touch neg batt cable back to neg post on batt- if there is any kind of spark, you have a battery draw (short)!! That’s a nice car!! Don’t let it beat you!! |

Re: Yamaha G8 Club - Please post!
Thanks Mike - Currently no Spark at the Neg Terminal. ( yeah, there used to be.... )
Can the ignition / spark coil overheat and 'go dead'? It's kinda in an heat soak area, and the Only thing I haven't replaced. Anyone ever adapt a Automotive spark coil to work? MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all. |

Re: Yamaha G8 Club - Please post!
Buddy, I’m sure it can , but that doesn’t seem to be a common problem. For what I’ve been told when I had your same problem, is that the igniter is usually the culprit!! I’m not a tech I’m just a guy with a hot rod golf cart!!
I believe there are still two Yamaha techs on this site and they should see this and respond!! |

Re: Yamaha G8 Club - Please post!
Yeah Mike, we still get together sometime,--Carolina Adventure World and Hatfield/McCoy- but some of us have moved on to side by sides. I picked up a '17 Yamaha Wolverine last summer, Jim has a CanAm, and Dan Hookm has a Honda Pioneer 1000. The green Vanguard cart was nice, but would beat you up off road. Trail riding is much nicer, now.
I've still got the G11 Yamahauler and a G22 gasser. I'm building a 48v G22, and will be selling the gasser. |
