Re: Axle drain and fill plug
Cgtech I see where you are coming from and it does say 44oz. In my many years of using Manuals, Codebooks, and References I have learned not to trust everything I read if it doesn’t add up or seam to make since to me. I have found myself having to look for a second source to verify my suspicions. I believe the math in your reference book is in error. 1,750 milliliters equal 59.18 ounces. In the Owner’s manual I am using it states to use 1750 ml (1.85 quartz total) of Yamalube, in the simple conversion method I used it is, (1.85 quartz X 32 oz = 59.2 oz). Yamaha (LIT-19626-11-14) (JW8-F8199-22)
https://www.evi.com/q/how_many_ounces_is_1750_ml TRANSMISSION Items YDRA Transmission: Type V-belt automatic centrifugal engagement V-belt width and outer line length 31.0 x 1010 mm (1.20 x 39.76 in.) V-belt wear limit 27.0 mm (1.06 in.) Governor: Type Oil bath flyweight Factory speed setting 19 km/h (12 mph) Differential/reduction gear: Differential type Bevel gear Lubricant/capacity Yamalube Friction Modified Shaft Drive Gear Oil / 1750 mL (1.85 quarts total). Alternative lubricant is mixture of 1660 mL (1.75 quarts) 80W90 Gear Oil and 90 mL (0.10 quarts) API G15 Limited Slip Additive. MAINTENANCE JW8 8-10 Transaxle Oil To check transaxle oil level: 1. Place the golf car on a flat, level surface. 2. Remove seven plastic rivets 1 and two bolts 2, and remove the bag holder insert. 3. Place an oil pan under the transaxle case. 4. Clean area around servicing plug 4. 5. Using an 8 mm hex wrench, remove transaxle oil servicing plug located on the rear of the transaxle case. 6. Transaxle oil should be at the top of the oil servicing hole or just beginning to run out of hole. Do not allow foreign material to enter transaxle. Serious transaxle damage can result. 7. If needed, add Yamalube Friction Modified Shaft Drive Gear Oil until it is at the top of the plug hole or just beginning to run out of servicing hole. TIP The YDRA Golf Car is equipped with an internal wet brake. Use of oil other than Yamalube Friction Modified Shaft Drive Gear Oil will cause brake noise. 8. Install the transaxle servicing plug and tighten to 14-19 Nm, 1.4-1.9 m•kg (120-168 in•lb). 9. Install the bag holder insert 3 and secure with two bolts 2 and seven plastic rivets 1. PS: The API G15 specification is in error (misprint) the correct designation for the Limited Slip Additive is (API GL-5). |

Re: Axle drain and fill plug
Update!!!!
Just wanted to bring this topic back up and the correct amount of fluid. A few weeks ago when I changed my rear end fluids I installed exactly 44 oz. I had exactly 14oz of fluid in a spare bottle so I added the remaining 14oz for a total of 58oz. Still didn't ooze out the fill plug but was dang near to the top which is good enough. Just this morning I drained my neighbors fluid on a cart that was 6 years old on the original fluid. Drained it into a pan and then measured out all that I could into 2 empty oil bottles and the total came to about 55oz give or take. Even this old of fluid it didn't have any signs of shavings or thick black oil like I've seen before on the forums. What i deciding to do on the neighbors cart was just dump two 32oz bottles of oil and let the extra ooze out into the catch pan. Very little oozed out with the complete 64oz. To save time and headache measuring it out just pour both full bottles in and let it ride. Wipe up the little bit that overflows the fill plug and keep on riding. |
