OK> Son came by today. We took the back off cart and went for a few rides. Got 12 mph out off it. Cart has 20x11x8 tires so I have committed to an after market clutch kit, which is best? It also has no screen in the pvc whole. Should it cause I get a lot off oil in the air filter case. Enough to make it leak pretty bad. There is a hole in the bottom of said case, looks to be original, is it or should I plug that? Also took muffler off to open up motor,. Would you switch to a Plowmans or just reinstall the original.

Again, thanks to all who are holding my hand through this.

All golfcart are set to go 12mph, if you want it faster you turn the governor up. On top of the trans under the muffler is an arm, there is a 10mm nut on there you screw it in to go faster, easy to get at from under rear bumper. You can screw it all the way in and get around 20 out of a stock cart, stock tires. If they are 20 lawn tires they help a little but atv tires are taller, 22 atv are about 8mph more than stock roughly (28mph). I had two G9 stock one governor all the way up did 27 on 22s the other no governor did 28 (both on flat gravel drive) but would get to 30 on pavement eventually. With the clone in it now I have seen 38 on same gps, but its pretty windy ride and not safe feeling lol so I rarely do that.

Clutch kit wont help a stock cart much unless you tow things. A new belt will help the most, and cleaning and checking out the clutches. When you lift it the larger tires will gear it up, more speed but less torque. Then you need to put a umax spring in the secondary or some other kit. I like the umax spring its a yamaha part, and the kevlar HD belt that CPP has (cartpartsplus). The belt is little wider it helps and the spring will keep rpm higher at low speeds. Should also look at the tension cable its under the gen pulley it keeps the engine from moving to the trans under high loads. It will bog if that cable is gone. You can buy one from yamaha or make one out of a bolt and weld washers to it or make an eye bolt.

The muffler you can do what you want, likely will have to jet richer if you remove. It will be louder, people have put all kinds of different exhausts on them. Some have cut that muffler apart and opened up flow.

Governor is maxed out. I backed it to the DIY you tube specks and only got 9 mph. Put it back to max and got 12. Tires are decent but do have dry rot (sun) so I hate to move up yet. If I can get 20 mph I will be tickled. What do you mean when you say umax spring? Is that the clutch spring? Belts must be updated, they are shot. Also saw the gov by pass thread, that looks like a good idea. I did notice the engine moving back under full throttle, about an inch or so, I will have to check the tension cable.
Again, thank you for your help.

Engine "moving back 1"-or-so"! Thats where all your speed losses are likely at. Motor mounts, limiter strap, & belt should be your #1 stuff. Fix those & it will act like a totally different cart.

Here is the limiter strap (torque cable). I made this with a bolt and strap. Plowman suggests using the stock torque cable instead!!

If you do this with a 5/16" bolt, make sure you use 2 nuts at the end. One will strip out the bolt and you will be making a new one!!

Here is the umax Spring, about 14 bucks from Yamaha!!

With the spring, you will also need to install the spacer behind the spring seat!!

Here is the Plowmans set up! With shorter belt, yellow spring, both outside and sliding sheave, Muffler and jet for carb. Also included are instructions on how to mod the air filter box!!

I installed a new spring seat in this picture. Plowman does not include this item in his "set-up".

Exactly right, this stuff all has to be working properly or the cvt will not work well.
