Rear-end / driven clutch rattle?
Any guesses as to what is causing this rattling sound at higher RPM's? It gets worse when coasting at high speed, and is reduced under load/throttle. I swung by the local cart shop and the guy there suspected a worn washer in the driven clutch. From what I can tell, it's not the gears, but I can't be sure.

Re: Rear-end / driven clutch rattle?
I can try, esp. if you think it DOES sound like a clutch issue. I just don't want to drop $300 on a clutch if this is fixable, or worse, if it's the gears anyway.

Re: Rear-end / driven clutch rattle?
Try this. I had a similar problem.
1.take the driven clutch off 2.take to c clip out to take apart the clutch 3.with the spring out, slide the 2 clutch halfs back together and check for side to side play. 4.the shaft on the cluch itself can wear out causing the inside sheave it to rattle at high speeds when it fully opens 5. if there is play (room to rattle) put some grease on the shaft and put the clutch back together 6. if its quiet for for a time being. you need a clutch! |

Yep - worn out clutch! Thanks for the info. New clutch installed and the rattle is gone.
