Any grinding noise when trying to move in reverse?

Sounds like something may have broke lose inside but you would think you would be able to hear some grinding even when going forward

Is it peddle start or key start? I am assuming that either way the engine is running and it still wont go in reverse?

I don't know if this'll help or not Scot...
but, here's adjustment instructions for the FNR actuator on the transaxle. I'm hoping that it's just an adjustment... if it's internal, I don't have much for you except a pdf M/S manual. |

Re: 1997 gas Club Car wont go in reverse?
I had the same problem on my 95 cc and I read on a thread here somewhere that if you drive along in forward then back off the gas and put it into reverse while still rolling forward. It sounds a bit rough but it fixed my reverse.

Except I thought it was rolling in reverse (shifter in neutral) and shifting to reverse while rolling! I never had to do it... but I've read where others have! |

Definitely drive along forward back off the gas and shift into reverse you will hear a nasty crunch. Shift back to neutral and you should have reverse. I was gobsmacked that this worked but it did and I haven't had a problem since. It's worth a go if your thinking of stripping down the transaxle. What have you got to lose?
