Default The CLONE engine setup & specs thread

If you have the 16hp even the 13hp, how about we get some details here to make it easier for others? Would like to see yamaha install but anyone is welcome lots of common issues with hookups and clutches. Would really like to hear how they run/sound/pull/etc!

Maybe some/all the following:

-What clutch did you use?
-motor mount & what cart is it?
-RPM or speed you get & tire size
-Power assessment?
-fuel pump/cable hook up/etc install, stock or engine starter, muffler, airbox?
-problems you encountered
-your recommendations
-anyone happen to compare the 16 to a V-twin just for fun? (TheNewGuy)

Pretty sure I'll be doing two G9 soon as other pressing projects are out of the way. Want to run the stock starter due to how I use mine and it has to be quiet. I may get the elec start engine anyway for the price for future uses. Thinking about the adapter and modding the clutch with some kind of spring, I'm sick of the mellow take offs and all it needs is a spring otherwise good clutch. Then, yes a car muffler or similar. I would put a cutout on it but singles sound ugly to me anyway, so all I want to hear is the whoosh of the cooling fan and spinning tires, lol....the wheelie bars hitting the ground....OK maybe I went a little too far.

I can weld anything this should be fun. If I have time I will mod my old lift some too and widen the front.

Was digging and found this, performance parts and a 30hp GX390 lol!
http://www.parsonsracingengines.com/page/engines

Also found this site that has performance parts for it too
http://www.affordablegokarts.com/mm5...ory_Code=GBPK9

I emailed one about a high rev kit for carts, they are running like 6,000 rpm no problem but not sure how much stuff they changed. 5K rpm in a cart would give great speed. Also one place says just machine the key down to advance timing.

One also has a cheap spacer ($10 iirc) to get a signal from the intake to run the fuel pump. There is another one that is large like one inch thick, they say it adds power at all rpm because it makes the intake longer.

The v-twin runs much smoother, is quicker off the line and has about 10 mph more than the clone 16. Checked both carts today with a gps, the clone tops out at 29-30 mph and the v-twin at 40-41 mph. The clone has 22" tires and the v-twin 24". Both have CVTech clutches from CPP also CPP engine mounting cradles, the one for the Geep1 I had to modify a bit. I like the v-twin better but so far happy with the clone.

I ordered a red 16HP here, it is sort of local will get it in one day. They give a little discount for ordering over the phone but I had to pay tax was about 380 delivered w/tax. But I can drive over there if I have problems with it. They also list on ebay. I think this is the same as the blue engine best I can gather except the gas tank shape/etc. Going to try one and see then I'll do my cart too. They also have a 10hp diesel and trying to get a v twin diesel later this summer. He says the 10hp has a lot more torque than the gas engine it might work in a cart. Said his prices have to go up a little soon here.

We took his engine out last fall, mine too actually, but didn't get on this so I put mine back in to use. So going to do his and see how it works then do mine. His was blowing oil mine just gets weak when its hot.

I can enlarge the main jet with a torch tip cleaner, lol, worked great on my cart.

Ok I will quickly go over a few things I did for my clone install. This is an ezgo but it has a yamaha g2 rear end.

Motor mounts - I made myself...see the pics in link.
Key switch - took out of the big blue box, stetched harness, and installed in the dash...make sure to connect the small wire to ground or the engine wont turn off.
Fuel system - Get rid of the gas tank on the engine! I've always had these leak at the cap, they are hard to fill up and they dont hold enough fuel to go any more than 30 miles. I used a new original ezgo tank and a universal pulse fuel pump from any riding lawnmower shop. I tapped into the valve cover for the pulse line and installed a 1/4" barb fitting from lowes for the fuel line. The barb just screws into the hole you drill but I also put jb weld around the base to seal it good.
Throttle cable - see pics. This is the best way I have found to do it and it works perfect.
Choke cable- I drill a hole in the choke lever on the engine and fasten the cable to it. The pics explain it easier.
Exhaust - scrap the stock muffler unless you like the sound of lawnmowers. I bent a custom exhaust header from 1.25" tubing and welded it to a Thrush car muffler.
Intake - I rerouted the intake to the bagwell for more clearance and cooler cleaner air. I made a snorkel from 1.5" flexible plumbing hose I got from lowes.
Clutch - Comet 780 from CPP but I doubt these are available still.

I guess thats all there is to it. Have fun. Stay safe. Enjoy.

Wow thanks for posting all that Extreme, looks like a great project! One issue with this is the hose aircleaner to rocker cover, it just lays there and has no seal to the rocker. It must be different than the blue engine. It will fall right out if I pull on it. There is no way one would get a pump signal with that either. Otherwise if I take the governor out I could tap that hole for the pump, but come up with a different throttle linkage. Some say use the intake it is cleaner so I was going to.

Right the muffler is another issue I have to find a small quiet one....maybe a Yugo muffler lol. I was thinking of putting a valve on mine but not sure what kind would work, for a cutout lol.
