Where is the best place to buy a new or used 1996 DS carry-all 48 volt motor?
Mine runs but is making a knocking noise and not sure how long it will last.

It kinda sounds like a guide ring/bumper situation to me!

Puskers... does it only make noise when accelerating or decelerating?

101789101 - Motor Guide Ring

You need one of these. 1996 model Club Cars have a nylon guide ring or "bushing" in the end of the motor shaft. It is splined to match the corresponding splines on the input shaft of the differential. When this guide ring wears out it begins to chatter. It's worse upon decelleration and cruising at max speed. When the vehicle is accelerating under a load you won't hear it, but when the splines start to bounce off of one another it makes a horrible chatter. I feel very confident in saying this is your issue. I used to see it a lot. Not so much anymore, as the vehicles we buy no longer have guide rings. They did away with that setup and went with a solid steel shaft motor some time around 1998-2000. If you choose to replace the guide ring, order the adhesive, part number 101813202. Let it sit for a day before you use the vehicle again. This allows the adhesive to cure.

If it more of a ticking noise then you have a brush problem

Sorry Scotty it is an electric motor with a tap tap tap and rattle rattle rattle. Golf Cart mechanic said it was the motor.

Yes it will get up to speed and make the noise when you accelerate. If you let off on it the noise stops until the motor levels back off, then it will start again.
