Stripped Bolt Hole Repair
Guys, while troubleshooting a non-running cart I discovered that the hole for one of the head bolts is stripped thus not allowing the cylinder to be tightened down properly.
I know stripped bolt holes can be repaired with a Helicoil but I have never done it. Some internet searches revealed several other options as well. Anyone have any thoughts on how the fix this? Any experiences to share? Any tips? Thanks |

Re: Stripped Bolt Hole Repair
helicoils are easy. we do them all the time at work. if possible take the entire jug off and set it flat to keep the hole straight. in a drill press or mill is preferred. use the correct kit for the size bolt will include a drill and tap for it. if possible run the tap on the drill press too but DO NOT use the power. clamp it in the drill chuck and TURN IT BY HAND. you think the stripped bolt hole is bad, wait til you have a broken tap stuck in it. if this scares you most machine shops should do it for you for around $50. best of luck
