Default Steering Box Assembly

Fellas,

This is my first golf cart build and it seems that I am running into a lot of rust/corrosion throughout my build. Does this look like it has more than the normal amount of rust/corrosion?

This thing look a LOT better than it did before I spent an hour trying to clean it up. Since I am getting ready to put this back on the cart... what kind of maintenance do I need to do to this piece? This is off a 2006 Precedent.

It looks like heavy corrosion, more than I have seen for that year cart. Even up here in the northeast where I'm from. Was the cart near an ocean? Or maybe used in the winter with salt? Left outside? Flooded? What does the frame and rear axle look like?

It is from the Virginia area. There is definitely some salt in the air and in some of the local water depending on where the cart was used. But to be honest I don't have any idea of the history of this cart besides for the fact that it had a country club sticker on it...

I just created a new thread where I can log my build and posted some photos. The rear axle looks like crap but I haven't looked at it really closely yet outside of removing it. My fingers are crossed.

I just noticed the other thread, post these photos there. I would definitely take my time and clean everything up and paint to protect from further corrosion.

If you ever need to adjust the tow-in those threads will need to be clean and able to move...otherwise it will be a real pain.

Lots of golf carts were totaled by insurance companies and towed out of beach communities after Matthew flooding.
I suggest buying Salt-Away or similar product to flush inside frame rails, etc.

I spent some time cleaning it up this AM. Looks like it should work but I think I am going to order new knuckles (not sure of real name) for it due to dry rot.

I can turn all the nuts to adjust the toe now.
