1990 Marathon won’t start in forward
Our shop’s cart will sometimes not start in forward. It always starts in reverse though and always cranks in both directions. I just got it running again after sitting a few years with a new battery, fuel pump, filters, and belts. Switched to pre-mix and removed oil injection system. When it does start it runs great! App says 18 MPH on flat ground.

Strange that it will spin in forward but not fire once in a while but always does in reverse, it shouldn't matter. My first thought is maybe timing, but I'll keep thinking on that one
Not that this has anything to do with it's problem but just want to make sure you are mixing it at 128:1. |

Running 80:1 now. Wasn’t sure about mix at first (tag on fuel tank missing), was 40:1 because of experience with 2-stroke lawn equipment. But it smoked like crazy and loaded up at idle. Did some research and decided to try 80:1 for a full tank, actually pretty happy with it! Still totally confused about its directional starting.

That's usually a sign of the crankshaft seals wearing out, and leaking.

Crap. Now it won’t start at all. Oh well, guess it’s time to tear it apart. Problem is that nobody has parts available!
