Default 2PG Pulsar substitute

Has anyone tried using a later model 4stroke ignition pickup on the older 2pg engine?
The only true 2pg pickup I've found is $139. The 4 stroke pickups are $15 . Its two wire, and the sensor appears to be just on bottom side of bolt holes for the body of pickup. Looks real close.

I have never tried it but I can tell you they have different resistance , much difference. The 4-stroke pulser ohms 19-21. The two stroke pulser ohms 120-180 . Buy the $139 one.

Took your advice, ordered the $139 pickup. It won't be here for 10 days, which allows time to experiment on adding resistance.

I received a 4stroke pickup today, that I ordered cause it was so cheap. It ohmed out at 225.
I have on old cart that I just checked, it was 155 ohms.
If I can figure out the workable flywheel clearance, I'm going to try it.

The 155 ohm one is good if it came off the 2PG . The one you just got today. Was it for the Pre Mci engine ?

It just said Ezgo 4 cycle 1991-2003. 28458-GO1, 26651-GO2. No mention of MCI. There was a lot of them, they appeared to be alike.

I have on old cart that I just checked, it was 155 ohms. I had asked earlier which engine did this pulser come off ?

The MCI pulsers are not to be found as far as I know. I have five new ones left. Still in sealed package. MCI pulsers should ohm between 433.5 - 586.5 ohms.
Pre MCI engine pulsers should ohm between 19 and 21 ohms. Anything out of that range is defective.
What is wrong with your pulser ?

This pulser you bought for the pre mci engine that ohms at 225. So far I haven't found one person who bought one that tells me they work . Read the reviews on amazon.

Ok, I have "pre mci" engines. two cycle robin 244. One has the stand up muffler and one the lay down muffler, which is the one with pulsar 255 OHM.

You don't have pre mci engines if they are the 2-stroke 244 cc. The pre mci engines were 4-strokes with 295 and 350 cc. The pulsers on these read 19-21 ohms.

Read Dave Box post here

https://buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=38601

to explain the difference in the stand up muffler and lay down muffler on the 244 cc to see exactly what you got. Pulser reading should be the same on these . 120-180 ohms

I don't know of any with a reading of 255 ohms but I might be wrong. My reading were taking from a 1985 ezgo service manual.
