Default Timing keyway wallowed out

Hi, I need some help.. I have an issue with my 350 timing keyway. It has widened out the keyway groove approximately 3 times the normal width. How should I fix this (shim, weld, or epoxy)? How do I determine what the proper keyway location is? Here are some pictures. The first two show how much the gear moves with the keyway in place. the third one shows the keyway groove.

Thanks in advance

I was hoping you wouldn’t say that. Is there a cheaper fix?

It has obviously been hammered hard to move over that much...... I dunno what else you could do? Epoxy won't stand a chance holding up and welding the end of that shaft while it is in the motor is unthinkable. I have a used one if you need it.... but ask around and see what others think ~ good luck

scottyb, thanks for the info. PM on the way. I was looking at the sponsors sites for a balancer shaft with no luck. Any one have any tips where I could find one?

Yeah a used shaft is going to be the "cheap" way out. Not really something you want to rig. Scotty has one, sounds like a great fix to me.

Well in a pinch you could cut a new key way on the opposite side of the shaft. Isn't a gear off the balance shaft, just a reverse rotation gear, nothing to do with timing?
