How do you test a Total charge transformer
I have a Total Charge charger that is not working. I know the board is bad.I have jumped out the circuit board and transformer starts to hum, but I am only getting a 1 volt reading at amp meter and circuit breaker. I want to know how to test the transformer so I know if it is good or bad, If it is good I am going to replace the board, diodes, capacitor and up grade it to a Total Charger III wiring.

Re: How do you test a Total charge transformer
You test the coil windings (1 and 2) for a short with continuity tester...... basically if they are not shorted out they will work.

Re: How do you test a Total charge transformer
I am not sure which are the 1 and 2 coil wires you are refraining to? Would that be the 110 volt feed wires that come from the timer? the wires that go to the capacitor? the two that go to the Diodes? or the two that go to the Amp gauge? Schematics I have for Total Charge III does not distinguish this.

The transformer windings. They are going to be good unless the fuses are blown?

Re: How do you test a Total charge transformer
Ok. Transformer windings are the primary circuit(110v) and coil windings are the secondary circuit(36v) two sets. I removed two wires from Amp meter and two wires from Diodes, and tested going from one amp meter wire to one Diode wire I get a reading, which I assume I should as it would be a Pos. and Neg. circuit. Going across both wires from Amp meter I get no reading , so no short. Should I get a reading across two wires from Capacitor, with wires disconnected from Capacitor ? As I am getting reading there.
