Default battery or charger problem?

my 89 ezgo works for about 10 minutes then dies whenever i use it. I charged it for about 3 hours before this happens. But the reason i don't just suspect the batteries is that the charger goes from 20 volts to 0 volts and stays there even when the cart is completely dead. is this regular or is the charger burnt out?

any help would be great

Is your charger shutting off after 3 hours, or are you unplugging it because you see it at 0? If it is shutting off automatically and you lose a running charge after about 10 min, you may have one or more bad batteries. Plug the charger in over-night and then take a voltage reading of each battery with the charger unplugged in the morning. If any battery reads less than 6.1-6.3 volts, it may be weak. If any battery reads below 6.0 volts, you definitely have a bad battery. After you charge it and take the voltage readings, go for a ride, 1/4 to 1/2 mile is plenty, then take the voltages of each battery again. If any battery is below 6.0 volts, it is probably weak/bad. Post your voltage readings here and we'll try to help out more.
