I'll take hot and dry anyday of the week and twice on Sundays.....
When the temps here hit 98 and the humidity makes if feel like 108, you don't even go outside unless someone is pushing you out the door...... |

so i pull my diff cover off, and start draining the oil into a pan and when it was done THERE WAS A HALF GALLON OF OIL IN THE DIFF. It looked like it was finally time to change it

Half a gallon should have placed it at the vent fill plug. WOW that was a lot of oil...... It only needs enoug to have the ring gear touch the oil and then the ring gear carries it up to the other componets. So when you refill it picture the oil level being at the top of the cover max. As indicated it is not much.
