If I change just the speed controller on my 1990 Marathon will it gain me any more speed? or do I need to change more than that? thanx

controller change will give you more torque (amps), but not anymore speed, climb hills better, pull thru soft ground better.....need to upgrade your wires to at least 4 ga. speed - change motor, rear tire size, up voltage, high speed gears, etc...plus always need a strong battery pack for best performance.

what would be a good recomendation for a controler for my 1989 EZGO Marathon, being it is stock right now, what would be a decent upgrade, nothing radical. Once I change that I can work on the next step. being I'm new to this I would like an actual part number so I get the right thing.

I would check with one of the site sponsors, they can hook you up. Probably a Alltrax or Curtis, maybe GE. Scottyb had a 700amp for $499 shipped in the for sale section, but that would be more on the radical side if you are just wanting a small upgrade from stock.

Actually the 700 amp FSIP is a tunable controller, meaning there is a screw to turn in down so he could run it at 400 amps now and 5-700 amps later when he gets his big motor!
Reduced to $450 just 2 units.

Now that is a deal! How many times do folks jump up from stock to 400-500amp only to go buy another 700amp later? Scotty this is a good deal....I just need a 72volt!!!

You think you need 72 volts

These units are 36-48 volts.

I have been in email contact with scottyb and will be sending him a pic of my battery compartment later today and we will be going from there. I already plan on buying upgraded battery cables, and a HD F/R cam. If I can upgrade my controller I will get it all at once. Only have a certain budget to work with this summer
