Default Charger connection question....

1995 Marathon...

The charger connector that connects to the cart will not stay connected.

Question: Can I just wire in a normal heavy duty plug like the one pictured??

I would put this on the charger cable and the female receptacle on the cart.
Any issues?

Also, it appears that have the resistor setup as opposed to a controller setup.

How hard is that to convert and what are the pros and cons? Thanks!

You should buy the correct receptacle for the cart.
If you insist on using a non-standard plug/receptacle setup, it will work, just make sure it is rated for the amount of amperage you are putting through it.
The female section goes on the cord and the male section goes in the cart to avoid shorting or arcing.

Looking at the picture you provided, the cart appears to have a controller. It would be the big black brick under the plastic cover between the batteries.

Thanks kernal....I haven't removed that part yet. Thanks!

I found the stock receptacle etc, but it is awfully pricey for what it is. That is why I am considering the other. If it works, it works I suppose. And yes, it will be rated for heavy duty current for sure. Thanks for the input. I am still looking, so I will take your advice in my decision!

As you can tell *duh* I am new at this. Cars are more my hobby, so this is another challenge for me. I want to have something nice to cruise the neighborhood in as we live in an acreage community. Most of the neighbors have carts and they come in very handy to scoot around in.

My plug from the charger looks like the following pic....this is SB50? It does not want to stay in the receptacle part for some reason.

So I purchased a 50A connector and receptacle. I am tackling that tonight and update you all on how it goes. If this does not work (I'm sure it will) I will get a replacement SB50 connect.

I don't know how much money you're trying to save but SB50 connectors with contacts are less than $3.00 each.

Yes I know that now....I was only seeing these pre-fabbed cables that replaced what I had and they were like $70 or more. Still kind of new at this and I am still finding more and more information so I know what the heck I am looking for.

I know the connector is SB50. What do you call the receptacle that it fits into on the cart? I haven't found that yet.
