36v vs 48v motor
Was reading an earlier post about motors and now have a question? It sounded like to go from 36 to 48 volts one doesn't need to upgrade the motor?
Can this be? A stock 36 v motor can handle 48 v? I know the solenoid, fr, and controller need upgrading, and the cables. Please clarify. Thanks. |

Re: 36v vs 48v motor
the 36v motor will have no problem with 48v. now if you go up to 72v like chevy did you probably have a problem. do it, you will like it. check out gornoman's post "zo6 graduates to 48v". good info.

Re: 36v vs 48v motor
We have lots of stock 36v motors running around on 48v using a 500a control. The nice thing about electronic speed control is that they have a 100% variable output.
a controller is only allowing 500a when a properly calibrated peddle is pressed to the floor. I have driven a 36v CC on 650a 48v for 2+ years without a problem. It is up to the driver to be responsible with regard to motor management. I have seen people burn up motors on 275a controls. Some common sense goes a long way here, do not hold the peddle down on the floor for long periods of time, do not creep or drive slower than you can walk, vary the throttle or peddle position as this will vary the motor heat. Turn it down if you can't control your foot... lol |
