Resistor
Will a cart work correctly with out a resistor or what will happen without it?

The resistor is used to keep the capacitors in the controller constantly charged . Without the resistor, the contacts in the solenoid will burn, pit and eventually fail from arcing.
The diode is a flyback diode and is used to prevent high voltage arcing at the final switch in the interlock system. Both are necessary. -sj |

The resistor is non-polarized, so it can be installed in either direction.
