How to choose right motor
I am ready to run my series 1999 ez go after rebuild.I could use some advice about motor size and hp.
I have a stock 2.5 HP stock 2500 rpm, This one is free.I can buy a 8.5 HP 3500 motor. I need someone to tell me advantage for the larger one,If any. I have change to 48 volts from 36,upgraded all wiring with 400 amp controller and solenoid. The rest of cart is stock. It is used only for golf. Thanks all |

Re: How do choose right motor
leave that stock 36 volt motor in there, and run it on 48 volts, you'll be very happy

Re: How to choose right motor
you will have a longer run time with the smaller motor. since you need it only for golf, that would be more important than speed or torque.

Re: How to choose right motor
Woodrow,Us old guys all want to out run our buddy to the ball. We get the best lie that way.
We do all want more speed, but also run time for the 18 holes, and make the batteries last as long possiable. Us old guys are very cheap.LOL Thanks all. |

Re: How to choose right motor
Sonny, do you know if the new motor would even "Bolt on? I doubt it. The connection between the motor and the rear end is made with an input spacer. The spacer has a number of specific splines, AKA grooves for the motor and rear end input to match.
If the whole "rig-a-ma-role" does fit you will dramatically drop your run time immensely. I don't mean a little, I mean huge. The other thing to consider is your torque will increase ten fold and there are huge possibilities your axle splines will twist off in your brake hubs. Your in charge of your destiny. Good luck. |

Re: How to choose right motor
You will have a 30-33% increase in the ground speed resulting from the voltage increase. Try it out. go play golf a couple of times and see how your run time holds out, hotrod.
If you need more give it a try, although I think 500 would be a better choice for most aftermarket motors. |

Re: How to choose right motor
Thanks for the input.
First off,the motor is on an ez go cart I bought, well I bought two.One is for parts and the other I rebuilt. One has an after market motor from somewhere in Ca. Not sure of the brand (Can't read label) but it's a 8.5 HP. The one that was on the cart I'm working on has a 2.5 hp with 2500 rpms the other 3500rpm.I'm just not sure how good the larger one is or If it has any advantage to the being larger. All that being said,if either one is ok, problem solved. I hope to post pic.sometime in the future. Again thanks for all the comments. Sonny |
