Okay, so new controller and the solenoid does click when you press the gas. All cables are clean and tight, and passed the tug test? So nothing is loose? I would suspect the F&R switch has lost contact within.

Everything is clean and tight. How do I check the F/R switch to see if it has lost contact from within? Thank you for taking time to help an old dummie

You can check for continuity as shown but sometimes you will get a positive test result on a compromised contact which is not strong enough to sustain the load of running the cart.
In short a failed test is positively failed, but a positive test is still suspect.
You can slam the shifter and wiggle (pull and push) the lever to see if it tries to go too. When all else fails take the switch cam out of the switch and inspect the contacts. See diagrams below for testing and switch cam removal.
