To clarify your topic should be "how to disable regen and gain a few extra MPH"

The speed sensor magnet is sending pulses to the controller based on revolutions of the motor, since it is 4 pole, if you convert to 2 pole it will only send half the pulses and tricking the controller by showing only half the actual revolutions. That is why regen braking is reduced or eliminated and that is also why the speed code in the controller would be irrelevant (at least until a certain speed is reached).

Question for Steve, when you went downhill at 27 mph, did you observe any motor braking that would have prevented you form going faster?

Well YES it is a moving part!!! It fits on the end of the armature and spins at the same speed as the motor and the sensor picks up the magnetic pulses as it spins. I put a speed magnet on my golf cart and had almost the same observances. I only got about 25 mph as my slight down hill wasn't that long. If I had a longer run I think it would of gone faster as there was NO regen braking noticed. I GPSd my speed but it is hard to take a pic of it as I was using my Iphone speed app for the GPS speed. I did need to steer with the other hand. I don't recommend breaking or cutting the magnet as it may come off from the centrifical force as it spins. throw balance off? Maybe a small amount. Magnet is only a couple of grams in weight, it is very light and the small diameter of the magnet wouldn't have much affect.

My appology it appears it is a moving part.

I never called BS to his post, I only stated if he bothered taking a picture of the broken magnet then it must have wanted a picture of the incredible speed jump from 15 to 27 mph. I know I would have.

All good morning,

The cart is stock except for knobby tires on a 8" rim. I do not no what or if there was a speed code setting. The cart whould never go above 15 mph because it was limited, you could feel the cart slowing if you went about 15mph.

After the magnet tweak, cut, fix, broke, hack, manipulate re redneck engineer the cart maxed out at 27mph down hill (1500') not a crazy steep down hill (FYI local sheriff has radar trailer set up, it was flashing red 27, over posted 25) My smart phone also showed 27. It also went back up that same hill at 17 mph. It also went 19 mph on flat ground for 400'. I can't feel any regen. This finding is pretty straight fwd.

You could counterbalance the broken magnet with something non magnetic. The pulses are not comming out evenly spaced anymore but the system may not care about that.
(You will get no pulses for half a rev)
