amp draw on 48 volt

Does any one know how many amps you should be pulling from a 48 v pack under a full load with a 400 amp controller?

I install an Alltrax 400 amp controller today and they said to install 250 amp fuse. I also have software to program and moniter controller and it show it was drawing 66 amps at full thottle.

From a standstill at the bottom of a hill, mash the peddle and see what the motor can draw amp-wise. There are situations other than full throttle which will draw more amps.

Scotty is right , the equation for Amps is I(amps)=E(Volts)/R(resistance). So the potential for having more amps flow is to have more electricity and less resistance ( 48v ok, 52v Better).
The bigger the controller the bigger the Hole (so to Speak) bigger pipe , more potential, less resistance.
So you have the potential of pulling more amps when the Batteries are fully charged and the Controller is asking for all the electricity they Have.
But I do not understand to upgrade to 400 Amp Controller and to fuse it at 250. The 400amp is a peak Value not a sustained value (135 for 1 hour) ?

A larger controller cuts down on heat, the same way upgrading to larger Battery cables, which is useually recommended with larger controllers.

Although you may never reach the 400 Amp max, you can now add a higher
RPM/HP motor which uses more amps, with controller power to spare.

The key is getting as much power to the motor when you ask for it as possable not seeing how many amps you can use :))

Gary, I had not known about the heat element of controller size but, it just makes sense !!! I feel better about the oversized 650 I got for my project. I was told to think of the controller as a gate valve in a water line. Too small and it will cut down the flow. Too big and it will not increase the pressure. But, it will let the amps flow at the capacity of the conductors relative to the draw.

thanks rusty. Gmorrison I was trying to find out if my controller was working the way it should. I did not know what the normal amp draw was. It would only pull about 66 amps pulling off from a dead stop.I checked batteries and found the were not charged. After charging it made a big difference. It pulls about 180 amps from start now and levels off to about 60.This cart has a plum quick high speed motor , 13'' honda rims and tires , 2 gauge wires , and just install the alltrax controller.

Hey did the new controller ,
speed U up and add quite a bit more low end Torque ?

The reasin I ask is I have the same setup on my 97 witha the Plum-Quick motor. So I was wondering if I upgraded the stock Controller if I might squeez
a little more out of it ?

Stock controllers choke a stock motor down a bit........I think if you get a motor upgrade then a controller upgrade is a given.
