Cracked frame
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the frame breaking in the front where the front suspension blots on.

Re: Cracked frame
looks to me like someone put too much tongue weight on the hitch and it pulled down and broke the welds.

Re: Cracked frame
Yeah. Happens if the front end gets flexed too much. You also need to look further back and see if any of the welds are cracked where the upright supports run up from the frame. Also look at the welds where the first support tube runs through the frame. Those places tend to rack as well.
Hard to see exactly how your lift is bolted on, but the extra stress that puts on the frame is probably what caused it to crack there. Some reinforcement of the frame, and how the lift attaches should be done to try and minimize that. |

Re: Cracked frame
Thanks for the advice fairtax. I'll give those spots a good look for stress cracks of any kind. The plan is to box in the front section of the frame than weld that noise piece back on all 4 sides of the frame.

Re: Cracked frame
That'll hold up MUCH better than the factory welds ever could!

Re: Cracked frame
Wished that welder, lived in my hood..... those welds are certainly better than what mine look like, unfortunately I've had the front end welded a few times, and made a custom rear bracket to keep the back frame from twisting and breaking....
Here are a couple of places to look as well... ..... And this is the custom brace I made, to keep the cart from twisting and flexing...... .... Good luck... |
