Default New controller installed

Ok I think I messed up bad. I just installed a FSIP FX503 controller and a HD solenoid on my 2000.5 Club Car DS. Got it installed and turned the the cart on. Stepped on the throttle and the solenoid clicked except it went in reverse when I had it switch on fwd. Ok I missed the note on the wiring diagram where it said to connect F2 on the motor to F1 on the controller and F1 on the motor to F2 on the controller. So put flipped the switch to tow and reverse the wires at the controller. Now it does nothing, the solenoid doesn't click. No reverse buzzer also. Did I just screw up the controller?

Update:

The resistor across the solenoid was hot with everything being off so I disconnected the battery pack. I let it sit for a while and took the resistor off and it checked 470 ohms. I then put it back on and hooked the battery pack back up so I could start checking voltages and the cart is working perfectly now.

Funny how that works sometimes... not actually funny until it's working again, though. I get it

I was wrong. The resistor across the solenoid is smoking hot if I keep the battery pack connected.

Sounds like the controller is shorted. Did you make any sparks reversing F1 & F2?

No sparks that I saw.

Per FSIP super moderator on the FSIP tech forum, that resistor should not be there on my setup. The controller is internally pre-charged.

Let's hope that is the problem.

FYI, you may not always see or hear a spark or arc like Walter said, but they still can cause a lot of expensive damage.

ALWAYS disconnect the main battery terminals when working on anything electrical on the cart. Turning off the Run/Tow switch is not enough!

Batteries, where sparks are acceptable!

Mistake you made was switching the Field wires without disconnecting the battery pack. You probably damaged the controller. The Tow switch does not disconnect power - only disables the controller from running the cart.
