1.5 year old Trojan 8V batteries (6x8V). 1 of the 5 is now dead.. options?
I have a recently acquired Club Car DS IQ 2004 (48V - 6x8V). March 2021 stamped Trojan deep cycle batteries. Previous owner said they maintained batteries but after having it a few months (and performing routine maintenance myself) one of my batteries is not holding a charge - had good water levels and I’ve never allowed any to run low. I was first keyed in to the problem when my charger (PowerDrive 2) would run for longer and longer periods of time - now it will not shut off automatically and my drive distance is greatly reduced. I tested each battery individually at rest with multimeter and 5 batteries are >8.3 and one is around ~6, so basically shot.
My question is.. what are my options.. can I get the bad battery refurbished? Or attempt to replace it with a similar aged/used battery? I’ve read that buying a new one is just as bad as having one bad one.. does Trojan have transferable warranty where I can get it replaced even though I am not the original purchaser? Even if they do would I want to replace just the one - again seems like that would be trading one problem for another. I was planning on replacing all of them with Lithium eventually but wasn’t exactly budgeting for them to go out after just 1.5 years after purchasing the cart. Any advice is greatly appreciated! |

Normally I wouldn't say this but, being that your batteries are only a year old, any damage done by replacing the bad one with a new one would be minimal. For sure, the best case would be to find a year old battery but that probably won't be possible. I am not an expert, though. Hopefully, someone else will confirm or refute.
Regarding Trojan's warranty, I would think that it would be transferrable. Those batteries are date-stamped, obviously. Trojan would know when the battery was made without the need for a receipt. I would call a Trojan dealer on it or even contact Trojan directly. |
