paint or no paint?
I'm rebuilding a 1983 ezgo 244cc two stroke engine. can i paint the outside of the alum. block with engine paint or will it cause the engine to run hot? This is my first cart rebuild and will have many more questions coming soon. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: paint or no paint?
I cleaned up the block real good on mine using engine cleaner and a wire bush/wheel and a dremel with a wire wheel, then cleaned up and used high-temp engine paint on the intake and front cover as well as all mounting brackets, etc to match the cart (as well as high-temp exhaust paint for the pipe and muffler) and it looks pretty sweet, I really don't think painting the block would give you troubles, just leave the cylinder and head alone (they're behing the front cover, etc anyhow so you really don't see them anyhow)

Thanks BrewCityMusic for the info. I didn't think it would hurt it, but wanted to ask before i painted it and found out it was a big no no.

Re: paint or no paint?
Here's a pic before I did the brackets and muffler, etc (just the casing painted) - I used Dupli-color high-gloss engine paint from NAPA (only $8 a can) and it turned out really sweet, just make sure you clean and degrease the heck out of everything first as once the paint starts to lift (as in if it's applied over anything that will stop it from adhering) I have found that it will all start to peel and flake pretty quickly. A little extra prep goes a Looooooooong way!
