Question Trying to identify this cart

There are no serial numbers to be found or readable. At some point someone 'fixed it up' and removed the body tags. The one on the motor is unreadable. So far I've figured it's an early 80s Marathon but identifying the motor to order parts is being difficult. Runs OK when I get it moving forward but no reverse at all. I realize to get help need to know what I have. Any help in the id and what direction to look at for 'no reverse' with this model would be nice. Replaced the FnB switch and just installed a new battery. No change on the reverse issue. Sometimes I hear a whine which makes me think it's electrical. But I need to identify to then find the proper electrical diagram. Using the number on the drive belt it appears to be a 1976 to 1987 E-Z-GO with six head bolt 244cc 2PG 2-cycle engine, 1 3/16" wide by 45" O.D.
I'm wondering if this is a Frankenstein which could make it even more fun.

In mid 1980 they came out with a Hitachi brand external starter/generator with modifications to the engine and clutch. This model EC25-2PG engine was used until 1988. In 1981 they came out with electronic ignition. 1983 was a single year model easily identified by having the muffler lying down behind the engine rather than standing up. In 1984 they went back to the stand up muffler near the drivers side of the cart

I was totally confused when I first got the cart as I'm new to golf carts and tried to find out about John Deere carts. Somebody was a greenie who 'fixed it up'. :)
