Elderly G2 - throw away or rebuild?
We have a G2 that we use to transport food and gear up a 300m long track from our wharf to our holiday house. We’ve spent some money on it ... reconditioned starter / generator, high torque clutch, chassis resprayed for rust protection, lift kit etc. it’s started to become a little temperamental, but we need it to be reliable so I’m considering my options. Do I cut my losses or do I spend some money on a rebuild? And if I was rebuilding apart from the engine stuff (valves / gaskets / pistons) etc what should I replace at the same time? Any advice everyone? Cheers.

Re: Elderly G2 - throw away or rebuild?
I’ve not “met” a G2 I didn’t like. They are all 30 plus years old, and though neglected & tired both of mine still keep going. Can’t guess what shipping would be, but Plowman’s Carts has everything for Yamaha, including that Don knows more about Yamaha carts than most any other human -
My 2 cents worth, you’ll be ahead fixing up the G2 compared with starting anew but admittedly i’m a bit biased . . . |

I would rebuild the old motor. Tuff as nails. I’m about to rebuild another one and I can help you along the way.

Haha that’s very kind, but I’d definitely be outsourcing the rebuild! What parts are you replacing?

Did you buy a kit? If so, which one?

I normally get all Yamaha OEM parts. You can find them on eBay.
