G2 Throttle and governor question
In my other post over at https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=166114. I was having trouble getting gear to shift but I think I managed to fix this hopefully however I also think I discovered an another issue with my G2.
When I step on the throttle, the engine will quickly rpm up and go fast where I had to quickly let go the throttle and it'll brake slow down quick. I seems can't get it to gradually increase speed. I do noticed that the engine is being pulled back toward to the transaxle when giving it gas and I think the cable that hold engine in position is broken. One strange thing is that the throttle cable from the governor to carb so so loose that it's not being used at all. The throttle stay closed when pressing down on the petal since cable have too much slack in it so it not opening it. How does the petal give it gas when the throttle cable is not opening it up??? I already rebuild the clutch and put in new shoes a couple of years ago. it still have the same new belt i put in it so I am not sure what causing it. Look like the petal start the generator and the carb is already wide open but the throttle is closed and it should be idling since the cable is not opening it at all .. Can anyone help me and explain what the reasoning of this and how do I fix this? Thank you |

Re: G2 Throttle and governor question
After checking the engine .. look like the tensioner cable is snapped.
Will a broken tensioner cause the engine to jump full rpm after lightly pressing on the petal however the throttle cable is still loose and not doing anything or opening the throttle. I checked the throttle and it still seem to be closed so it should be idling not going full rpm with loose cable right? I will take off the air filter off and look inside the throttle body. |

If the throttle cable is loose, that's not good. Fix that for sure.

When I removing the air filter, I noticed the carb was partially opened so I took the throttle cable off the carb and it snapped shut fully closed. The shadow and light fooled me at first thinking carb is already fully closed when it's not so I took the throttle cable completely out of the cart and it's completely jammed keeping the carb halfway open at all time! I went ahead and soak the cable with WD40 to see that hopefully in about an hour it'll come loose and slide freely again. If not then hopefully they still sell replacement throttle cable somewhere on the net ... |

Oh and the shadow fooled me again, it look like the engine tensioner is fine and not snapped.
Phew .... |

Re: G2 Throttle and governor question
Look like I can't free up the throttle cable .. it really jammed so I am going to have to get a new one.
But after examining the petal to governor cable ... it look like it can be unhooked from governor and hooked up to the carb without any modification bypassing the governor. Have anyone done this and does it break anything? |

Re: G2 Throttle and governor question
You can definitely hook the throttle cable directly to the carb, no problem. Just remember that you will run wide open now, so watch your speed/rpm.
I am not a sponsor lol, just been playing with carts for a number of years If you need parts, you can call any one of the site sponsors that sells factory Yamaha parts. Just check their web pages. When in doubt, call them. I can say that Plowman's Carts specializes in Yamaha carts and Don, the owner, is a Yamaha guru. https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/site-sponsors.php |

I went ahead and took the governor cable off and connected it from pedal directly to carb. That fixes my high rpm issue. With the pedal full to the floor, there still seem to be 1/4 or less before it wide open but I can’t adjust it any further in the carb side. The cable adjustable nuts is all the way at the end of the cable sleeve thread. I wondered if I could adjust it more on the pedal end to open it some more? |

Re: G2 Throttle and governor question
It's been a long time since I worked on mine, but it seems like I got full travel on the cable somehow. I just don't remember sorry. I don't have the G1 engine anymore, I've upgraded to a Vtwin.
