How stuff works
How stuff works.
Sometimes when trying to troubleshoot an issue, it’s helpful to understand what something does, how it works, and how it actually operates. This can provide some context that can be helpful instead of just guessing “clean the carburetor” or “I’ve replaced a Chinese shipping container worth of parts and the cart still won’t run” Maybe this will help some. Re: How stuff works
Nice job CP, my favorite was the see-through carb. I know how it works and everything but to actually see it up close magnified like that and in slow motion was outstanding. I always thought gas was happy but never seen it dance like that before......Thanks

The cvt clutch one is really good to understand how these clutches work. I think most people probably don’t realize “proper” operation or how they’re supposed to behave unless they live in the great white north and spent their childhood tuning sled clutches |

Re: How stuff works
I had seen that clutch video before, it is very explanatory. And yeah been there on the snowmobile thing wayy toooo many times lol, I don't do that sport anymore. But I did sooo enjoy the acceleration of those things, 0-80mph in about as fast as you can say it. Then hang on for another few seconds to hit the 100+mph number, I feel lucky now that I survived all that fun LOL

Re: How stuff works
First time I have seen the carb video...nice to see confirmation of what I understood to be going on. I'd like to see one with multiple jets, idle and main.
I haven't ridden a snowmobile in 35 years...never 100 on one either. Max I could reach was a touch over 70 and I would run it wide open till the plug burned up or my cousin slowed down on his Polaris. How I am alive, I have no idea. I was a kid, and wasn't smart enough to carry a flashlight. You truly understand how little we are when the sled dies in the middle of the wilderness (Adirondack Mtns) with no lights or sounds, and in the middle of a clear night. Tall pine trees lining the trail hide the moon, but the shear number of stars, the density of visible stars filling the sky is amazing when it is real dark. Also, absolute quiet. 20 mins or so, I would see the lights of his sled coming back to look for me. Bit of light, swap out a plug, and away we would go. I was always amazed at how rugged those things were. Not sure how high or how far, but at 70 mph when you hit a plow pile along a guardrail at the edge of a 90 degree bend of an ice covered road, you learn how to fly quickly. But that is another story. Neat thread...now how about a link to the inner working of an EZGO ignitor? :) |

You do know, don’t you, that you can fit a spark plug in your pocket.

A few more :)
DC electric motor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQatiB-JHdI How a generator works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhATjUHgzxQ You can watch the electric motor and generator videos, to understand how a starter/generator works, and why once the gas engine starts running, the RPM of the motor spins the electric motor faster than it would spin on its own and it generates current instead of consuming it. Re: How stuff works
I could have fit a flash light in there too, but I did say I was young...35 years ago at least. Acts of dumbness were not uncommon back then. It also wasn't my machine. I would just camp out on the seat till my cousin came looking. I was just out there to flog that thing for all it was worth and succeeded.
