We’d have to hear the noise to be sure. But my guess is it’s probably rod knock which sounds scary, but these are very easy engines to work on. I’d do rings and seals while in there, but all in with new rings, gaskets, seals, and rod you’re probably looking at less than $150 in parts and if you’ve never done it before and are mechanically inclined, a weekend worth of work. If you’ve rebuilt some of these engines before, I’d give it a few hours.

This is of course worst case scenario. Noise may be a clutch, may be valves. I don’t know if that has hydraulic lash adjusters or not… if not then may just need a valve adjustment. If it does then one of the HLA’s may have failed/collapsed. Valves can make quite a racket as well. It may be a bearing somewhere.

It’s hard to say what might make an engine noisy but as long as there isn’t a big hole in the case it’s totally saveable and really doesn’t take a lot of time or money. I’m sure the knowledgeable folks here can help walk even a novice through the process as long as you have some mechanical aptitude.

I haven’t rebuilt one of these specific engines personally, but rebuilt a lot of other engines. Id rebuild one of these kawasakis over a robins MCI any day of the week. (Had to throw that one in for you trig) I can blow up a MCI with the best of em

Cartmaster, Slonomo. KGSC, CP241, Thank you all for responding to my quest. It appears that this cart has ben sold and is no longer an issue to me. With your help I'm a little better prepared for the next one. I still do not know the value of one of these carts in good shape. Can some one help me there? Thanks again everyone.

Right now values are in the stratosphere. And I’m truly beginning to question if they’ll ever return to a normal price again. I think not unfortunately
