Default 2 Speed Motors

Does anyone have experience with 2 speed motors? I read somewhere you can get a switchable motor that gives you speed on one setting and torque on the other. Sounds too good to be true, so I would like to know the pros and cons of such an animal. Thanks.

We install them on our lifted EZGO's and our customers LOVE them...

They seem pretty neat..

Pro: Best of both worlds, at a pretty good price..

con: more switches, more moving parts, more things to break.

There is one extra switch (actually it is a club car f / r lever with NO micro's), two extra motor cables and a completely rebuilt EZGO motor. Electric Motor Products makes the kit. Ours is slightly different than the stock model, I won't tell how, you'll see it when you insall it. No con's on this kit - only pro's. I've never had any motor kit come back to the shop with anything broken or burnt - and this has been for nearly 2 years that these have been out.

the only problem i've seen with those switches is it needs a kill micro switch so you can't arc between speed/torque mode..

A fly-back diode across the torque coil would prevent this.

These setups perform well. I have the stock 3.1 conversion and I get about a 4mph difference b/t torque and speed mode. I would suggest getting a bigger motor to see bigger gains. I would call Ron @ East Coast Custom Carts or MikesMotorToys and get their input. I've seen the setups Ron gets from EMP and it did perform quite better than mine. Also, Chuck @EMP will be able to tell you exactly what performance you'll get depending on cart. Hope it helps.

What else is needed to be purchased besides the $525 2 speed kit to make the switch?

BRS - what is your top speed (estimate) with that motor and your lift? EMP said somewhere around 23MPH.

Yours looks to be a 48v cart, right?

Thanks.
